My first marriage was to a jw. He was the most vile, disgusting, insecure and jealous person I had ever known. When it all fell apart i was frightened I would never be in a relationship again as in the world people were far worse. Time moved on and I remarried a non jw. He is a lovely person and we are both very happy without any bible rules interfering in our relationship or perceptions. his only concern is that one day i might want to go back. lol!! as if!

How many of you followed the WTS direction on education years ago and have been screwed by it?
by Julia Orwell ini'm really interested in this question because i've heard for years that if you forgo further education and go pioneering, when you have a family down the track you will get a good job because jehovah will provide for you because you pioneered.
as long as i was a kool-aid drinker, even then, i thought, "how does pioneering pay your bills?
surely education should come first.

I wanted to be a high school geography teacher. As a child of the 80's I was denied that dream by the WT. in fact, that is all it will ever be.
When completing high school I was considered 'exemplary' and during the month of my high school exams I was encouraged by an elder to pioneer as Jehovah would look after my grades. Stupidly I did this and no, I didn't get as many a's as I would have liked, but I still got a good pass. I was told i would be up before the JC if i went to uni (that put the fear of god into me) it was considered so serious by my body of elders at the time. i believe things are not so strict anymore.
Twenty four years later I am in the second year of my degree. It's my final act of rebellion to the Borg!!
this topic is one of the few that really gets me going. I get so angry about how they manipulated my life, my livlihood, my future, my dreams, my ambitions. Why couldn't they have just left me alone.

The story of Bo Juel Jensen - the man behind the Anti-Watchtower media campaign in Norway
by cedars inhi guys.
richard e. kelly has kindly contributed a great article to jwsurvey.org on the link below.... http://jwsurvey.org/child-abuse-2/bo-juel-jensen-could-he-be-watchtowers-worst-nightmare.
richard tells the story of bo juel jensen, an ex-witness who has been doing marvellous work in raising awareness of watchtower child abuse mishandling in norway.. as with most child abuse victims, bo's story is a disturbing one.

Bo is doing some amazing work in bringing this issue to fore. Well done in that he is able to speak on behalf of many who can't

Question to re-instated ones or those who know them
by ItsMyLife inhi guys and gals.
i hope you're all enjoying your lives, whatever path you have chosen.. i have a question for anyone who is currently re-instated, has previously been re-instated, or knows and is still in contact with a re-instated one.. my question is this:.
is the main reason for getting re-instated:.

My only purpose for getting reinstated was so my mum would feel better about openly having anything to do with me. As soon as I was reinstated, I stopped going. Can't say I was bothered about the shunning from witnesses, but it definitely bothered my mum me being df'd more than it did me.

Definitely. Made up for a lot of lost time, enjoyed every minute. No regrets, no conscience and better still no JC!

What brought you here?
by leaving_quietly infolks here all have one thing in common: they are somehow associated with jws, either were one, are married to one, have a relative who is one, has a romantic interest in one, are are currently one.
perhaps you are not one, but something about jws bugs you enough to have found this forum, and read it and contribute to it.
what brought you here?

I've been out for many years now, but the fear of reading anything anti-jw remained with me. I hadn't really thought much about support for myself but a quick google search brought me here a few months ago. I wish I had that courage years ago.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses a hierarchical religion? And does it matter?
by cedars inthis is the title of my latest article, which is available on the link below.... http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/are-jehovahs-witnesses-a-hierarchical-religion-and-does-it-matter.
inspired by the illustration in the april 15th watchtower (above), i thought it would be worthwhile to further explore this facet of the society for two reasons.... because the society has spent decades criticizing the catholic church for being hierarchical, andbecause the society has recently become more open about its hierarchical nature than ever before.below is a diagram i have prepared which shows the organizational similarities that watch tower society now shares with the catholic church.... .
until recently, the governing body could place the "faithful slave" above it at the top of the pyramid, but as of october 5th this fuzzy doctrine was scrapped - thus removing the final distinguishing factor between the governing body and popedom.. as always, i would be interested in your thoughts.... .

Whilst, in principle, the rest of the world is striving for equality and anti-discriminatory practice, here is the wt trying to divide us all up. Perhaps there is room on the hierarchy, very low down of couse, for lapsed former members, da, df and the dreaded apostates lol!!
